autism medicines and sleep

Sleep related to medicine or diet is short term and dose related. It settles over few days if same dose is maintained

If u notice sleep with any medicine, it means the medicine is a cooling agent for behaviour and movement.

Sleep doesn't mean that medicine is addictive or habit forming .

All sleep causing medicines are not same. All medicines causing sleep are not sleep medicines and they may not have been prescribed for sleep.

If a doctor prescribes a medicine and if it causes sleep and you or school is uncomfortable with it the dose needs to be adjusted up or down to make the child comfortable just short of sleep.

If you notice any hyperness or restlessness following sleep related medicine , it just means that the child may need double dose.

If any medicine is causing sleep, and u r not comfortable with sleep beyond 5 days.. there isa simple rule, divide thedose in 2 parts and give with gap of four hours

Antipsychotic medicines used in autism are not necessarily for sleep, but oftenfor behaviour, obsession and sensory issues.
